Recycled paper is an obvious choice for “green” invites, and nowadays, you don’t have to settle for dull brown Kraft paper to save the environment. There are many companies that offer beautiful recycled stationery made from everything from regular recycled paper, old maps, tobacco, coffee and banana fibers to elephant poop (it doesn’t smell!).

Ink

Even ink is going green these days. Who knew that the old petroleum-based stuff was so bad for both the environment and us? Well, luckily, we’ve smartened up, and you can find quite a few printing businesses that use ink made from soy, vegetable, linseed or cottonseed oil, which are biodegradable and contain a lot less volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Seed-Embedded Paper

Why not send out your invitation on paper with seeds embedded in them? There are several companies who offer gorgeous recycled paper wedding invitations with seeds embedded. Imagine your guests looking out at their garden years from now, telling their kids or guests “that beautiful tree/plant/bush came from the wedding invitation the Smith’s sent us.” It’s a nice image, isn’t it?
